THIS WHOLE REVIEW POSSIBLY CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!
I absolutely devoured this book. I just couldn't put it down!
I was first drawn to this book by the hilarious cover and title. Not that it's funny that someone dies, but, I was extra curious on why this person was glad their mom died.
Upon finding out that Jeannette McCurdy was in iCarly I actually didn't watch it, or Sam and Cat. I did
however watch LOTS of other of The Creator's shows. I was shocked to hear what went on, and I believe lots of what Jeannette went on during her time on iCarly probably went on during the other shows too. It's so sad to read all she went through. Not only with her mom,and family, but with The Creator, and what he did to the kids it absolutely disgusts me.
Through most of the book she calls him by The Creator. There is one time she uses his real first name. I am not even going to mention it here. I don't think she meant to. I think it was an honest mistake. I think she wanted to leave it out because it gave him some identity, and he doesn't deserve that. What he did to those kids. He deserves NOTHING!.
I was heartbroken to read how her mother treated her,and even after she died. Lets face it this is NOT a spoiler. It's in the title. The mom dies! The abuse being told what to eat, when to eat. What to wear, and even helping of showering and toileting well into her teenage years tore at me. I was ravaged at it all. It was so emotional, and at times hard to read.
Dragged into a life of fame she did not want. I was so sad to read it. The ending tore me to bits when she was asked about HUSH money to not speak about anything of went on. How many others were told the same thing from the shows I grew up with not to speak out, and took the bribes? I'm so glad she wrote this book. We need more former child stars to start speaking out about the industry, and all the corruption that goes on.
I'm sad to read of what she went through, but I am glad she was able to break free from it, and not let it bring her down, and tear her to pieces. She survived, and ran to freedom, and quitting acting. She may of struggled at times to get there, but she made it. I want more books like this. I can't give this book enough praise.
