I'm glad my mom died by Jeannette McCurdy (Review)

THIS WHOLE REVIEW POSSIBLY CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!

I absolutely devoured this book. I just couldn't put it down!
I was first drawn to this book by the hilarious cover and title. Not that it's funny that someone dies, but, I was extra curious on why this person was glad their mom died.

Upon finding out that Jeannette McCurdy was in iCarly I actually didn't watch it, or Sam and Cat.  I did
however watch LOTS of other of The Creator's shows. I was shocked to hear what went on, and I believe lots of what Jeannette went on during her time on iCarly probably went on during the other shows too. It's so sad to read all she went through. Not only with her mom,and family, but with The Creator, and what he did to the kids it absolutely disgusts me.
Through most of the book she calls him by The Creator. There is one time she uses his real first name. I am not even going to mention it here. I don't think she meant to. I think it was an honest mistake. I think she wanted to leave it out because it gave him some identity, and he doesn't deserve that. What he did to those kids. He deserves NOTHING!.
I was heartbroken to read how her mother treated her,and even after she died. Lets face it this is NOT a spoiler. It's in the title. The mom dies! The abuse being told what to eat, when to eat. What to wear, and even helping of showering and toileting well into her teenage years tore at me. I was ravaged at it all. It was so emotional, and at times hard to read.
Dragged into a life of fame she did not want. I was so sad to read it. The ending tore me to bits when she was asked about HUSH money to not speak about anything of went on. How many others were told the same thing from the shows I grew up with not to speak out, and took the bribes? I'm so glad she wrote this book. We need more former child stars to start speaking out about the industry, and all the corruption that goes on.
I'm sad to read of what she went through, but I am glad she was able to break free from it, and not let it bring her down, and tear her to pieces. She survived, and ran to freedom, and quitting acting. She may of struggled at times to get there, but she made it. I want more books like this. I can't give this book enough praise.
Read this book now!

The Book Swap by J.E. Rowney (Review)

I received this from Netgalley for review. Thank you to Netgalley, and the publishers.

A very quick read, and could easily be read in one sitting. I was however left a tad disappointed. It felt very unrealistic, and the characters made poor choices...More than your average thriller.

There were no major multi point plot twists..which i love by the way. It was an average thriller. It will be ok if you like light suspense and small thrills. If you need something more twisty and thrilling then leave this one on the shelf.

The Guilty Couple By C.L. Taylor (Review)

I want to thank HarperCollins for providing me with a copy for review.

I really enjoyed this. A very fast paced thriller. There was lots of action, and excitement around every corner. Each chapter is from a different character's perspective which I do enjoy.  It kept me guessing for quite a while too. Even when I did figure out a little more of what was going on I still enjoyed the book.

This was my first book by C.L. Taylor, I will definitely be reading more of their work.

I'm not going to spoil anything for you. You'll just have to read it for yourself. Happy reading.

Little Eve by Catriona Ward (Review)

Thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher for a chance to review this.

This is my second book from Catriona Ward. I'm shocked I was so let down, and disappointed with this one. Her first book I read ' The Last House on Needless Street' was really gripping, and kept me going.

This one, I was let down. I didn't connect with the story at all. I got lost, and kept wanting to put the book down. For me, it might of been the time period that might of been an issue for me.

I know a lot of other people liked it, and I really wanted to like it too, but I just struggled through it. I guess not all can be winners right?

I do hope 'Sundial' reads more like "Needless Street" I will be giving that one a chance.

Suburban Hell by Maureen Kimer (Review)

Thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher for a chance to review this book.

I had fun with this book. It was funny, and had some horror elements to it too. Not much scares me anymore, but I still enjoy horror. I'm not a mom....to human children anyway, (my child is a cat) so some of the dialogue or jokes, etc I might not of fully got the jist of, but I still enjoyed this book.

The cover art is awesome too. a demon zombie hand coming out of the ground. While housewives look in the background is totally eye catching. I also love the use of colors in the cover.

Again, not a mom to human children, so I don't know what it's like to sit in the carpool lane, but I can picture someone reading this while waiting for their spawns to come running from the halls to the minivan.

Check this book out!

Motherthing by Ainslie Hogarth (Review)

 3.5

I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book for review.

I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did. I absolutely LOVE the cover of this book. The artwork is so creepy, and pulls you in. Sadly the book didn't quite do it for me as much. It felt choppy, and a little all over the place. I many times felt a little lost in the story, and not fully in a good way. I felt I couldn't fully keep track of what was going on or had happend. I literally felt lost in the story. I did like that I laughed a few times, as well as having an uneasy feeling, but to me the story didn't hold up as much as I was hoping.

Mothered by Zoje Stage (review)

I want to thank Netgalley, and Thomas & Mercer for an e-arc of this.

I could not read this fast enough. I seriously want to give it more than 5 stars, but Goodreads wont allow it. My first Zoje Stage book was Baby Teeth. ( I also, was able to read as a ARC). I thought that was a wild ride. This is wilder. So many times I felt like I was the character. I was so thrilled. So many moments made me to "What the F*ck".

I did have a laugh at one scene since it reminded me oddly of something from my own childhood. (Spoiler FREE). The scene involves a hamster, and I had something similar happen to my hamster. I just don't know which situation would of been worse. (Zoje, if you're reading this I'll gladly share my own hamster story.)

I loved having the confusing feeling throughout. This book really kept me guessing. I highly recommend you read this if you love thrills, and horror. I've read some have been let down by Zoje Stage before ( not me, i love all of it.) but if you've been let down before please, please give 'Mothered' a chance.

On a last note I want to mention the book cover. Now unfortunately the artwork doesn't display on an arc on my kindle. But viewing the artwork on Goodreads, as well as Netgalley it looks beautiful. I wonder if it's embossed, or textured in anyway? I know you still would't get the textures, or colors in an ebook copy, but it's still a stunning cover. I know we are not supposed to judge books by their covers, but I'm sorry, the cover is the very first thing we see on a book. Even before reading a synopsis. If this was my first book by Zoje Stage, and all I had to go off was the cover, it would of pulled me in. That's what attracted me to Baby Teeth. ( I don't remember if I covered that in my Baby Teeth review or not). Major props to whoever designs Zoje Stage's book covers because they are creepy, and eye catching. Very bookshelf worthy.

I think that about covers it, at least I hope I didn't miss anything. Now, with that said. Go out,and read, and or pre-order 'Mothered' by Zoje Stage (pub date. 2/14/123)
